What is it like to be a student athlete? Basketballer, runner, swimmer, cyclist, gymnast, pitcher, wrestler, football, tennis or lacrosse player? And what is it like to balance school, practice, work, family life, love, and all that competing? What is it like for the heart, the mind, and the body? What is it like for the spirit?

Rhyme & Rhythm: Poems for Student Athletes captures through exquisite and heart-felt poetry the lives, pains, sufferings, revelations, grit, and triumphs of the student athlete. On the track, on the diamond, on the court, on the street, in the home, in the ring, and through all walks of life. More than forty renown poets have come together to illustrate the tightrope walk, the personal challenges, and the self-discovery of this amazing and often overlooked group of people. Dive in and discover the poetic life, both the rhyme and the rhythm, of the student athlete.

Rhyme & Rhythm: Poems for Student Athletes

SKU: 9781735253145
  • A very innovative book that integrates sports, social work and the arts. A rare find.

An absolutely fantastic book of poetry that gives insight into a community of people (student athletes) that I've never seen articulated so well. Falls in line with any ESPN, NFL, NBA or other sports documentary that aims to capture the back story, life, perseverance, and determination of an athlete. A recommended read!

This is so much more than a sports book. What a diverse collection of heartfelt moments, challenges, accomplishments, and discoveries. Kudos to Sarah J. Donovan for coordinating and editing this special project, and thanks to the teachers and students on the anthology review board who read and evaluated the many submissions of poems.

Athletes move in rhythm, these poems move in rhyme, and this collection joins the two. In an extraordinary anthology, each piece is carefully curated to celebrate all aspects of the athlete. A perfect gift for student athletes.
